Church School Curriculum and how it is used at the VCC Children come to the start of morning worship and then go to Sunday School on the premises of the Lutheran Church. There is also a supervised nursery for infants and toddlers. The curriculum used is The One Room School published by Cokesbury. The curriculum is published quarterly. Arrangements should be made, if possible, to have the curriculum hand carried from the States, which avoids overseas postage and custom charges. This is how the curriculum is used at VCC. 1. Learning by HEARING. The parents teach the children during the week at home in the language most comfortable to parents and children. If parents do this early in the week, the lesson can be reinforced throughout the week. Children learn the lesson whether or not they are in Sunday School – because they have learned it at home from their parents. 2. Learning by TELLING. During the children’s time in church, the children review the lesson with the minister in a question/answer format. They tell what they learn, in effect, teaching the minister. 3. Learning by DOING. During the church school time, the lesson, learned at home and reinforced by telling, is further reinforced by doing activities that are related to the lesson. The activities include music, drama, crafts, drawing, etc Part 3 works best with two teachers in the classroom - one who is in the classroom to set up the class and welcome the children as they arrive; the other who brings the children from the church service to the Church School room.
